Kamia "Mia" Mwango, FAAC, is a highly accomplished NASFAA-certified financial aid administrator passionate about transforming the landscape of higher education. Bringing a skill set of project management and strategic enrollment planning to the space, Mia loves to facilitate improvement by connecting people and perspectives around the purpose of education. With over a decade of experience in financial aid, Mia's career includes serving as Senior Director of Financial Aid at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida, leading a team of 21 professionals who deliver more than $50 million to over 10,000 students annually. Her leadership style is characterized by vibrancy, empathy, and assertiveness. She has a proven track record of boosting efficiency and compliance by implementing automation and process improvement initiatives while enhancing team morale and employee satisfaction/retention. Her team’s capabilities and her dedication to innovation and best practices have been recognized with several awards. In addition to her role at Santa Fe College, Mia has also honed her technical acumen as a Financial Aid Technical Coordinator/Functional Analyst and Technical Support Specialist with Gainesville Public Works. She has also worked as a Real Estate Salesperson in Gainesville and as an Engineering Project Manager with the Florida Department of Transportation, where she developed exceptional stakeholder management, budgeting, and process improvement abilities. Mia is an active member of several professional associations, including FASFAA, SASFAA, NASFAA, and AFC, where she has held various leadership positions. She is also the President-Elect of FASFAA for 2023-2024 (President for 2024-2025). While Mia is deeply committed to her profession, balance is key! She prioritizes spending time with her family and friends as a key part of overall health, well-being, and connectedness.
